LOM- 2030E is designed to build 3-D wood-like models and molds from CAD
files. Either high performance or standard LOM papers can be used. A "Control"
computer is used to control the LOM machine and preprocess CAD files. A
laser cuts the paper into the desired pattern. This is done on consecutive
layers of sheets which are bonded together by pressure and heat. The heated
roller which performs this task also eliminates air bubbles.
Steps towards the completion of a
model using LOM:
1. Creation of part in I-DEAS, a
3D software package.
2. File is sent to LOM Control Computer.
3. Create part outline and base.
4. Create part
5. Remove waste material
6. Sand and Lacquer if required
7. Final product
